Anupamaa Actress Rupali Ganguly Files Rs 50 Crore Defamation Suit Against Stepdaughter Esha Verma
Rupali Ganguly has issued a defamation notice to her stepdaughter, Esha Verma, demanding Rs 50 crore in compensation for allegedly tarnishing her character and personal life. The notice was filed in response to what Rupali claims are “false and damaging statements” made by Esha. Led by lawyer Sana Raees Khan, Rupali’s legal team initiated this step to protect her reputation.
The notice, addressed to Esha, explains that Rupali was taken aback by Esha’s posts and comments on social media platforms, including X, Instagram, and Facebook, and clarifies that Rupali wanted to present the true facts. “Our client states that she was shocked to see the posts and comments published by you on various social media platforms… It is apposite to put the true and correct facts leading to the issuance of the present notice,” it reads.
According to the notice, Rupali experienced mental trauma as a result of these statements, requiring medical treatment, and faced humiliation on set, leading to lost professional opportunities. Initially choosing silence, Rupali felt compelled to take legal action after Esha allegedly involved her and her husband Ashwin Verma’s 11-year-old son. Rupali has also demanded an immediate, unconditional public apology, warning of further legal action if Esha fails to comply.
The legal document further clarifies that Rupali had been friends with Ashwin Verma for 12 years before his separation from Esha’s mother in 2009. It also states that Rupali and Ashwin attempted to support Esha’s career by arranging photoshoots and auditions to help her enter the entertainment industry.
This defamation case follows serious allegations Esha made against her father and Rupali in a recent interview. The 26-year-old accused Rupali of physically assaulting her mother in Mumbai and described Ashwin as “a very abusive man physically and emotionally.” She detailed emotional trauma, claiming, “I was devastated, crying in high school… who broke my parent’s marriage, who physically hit my mother in person in Mumbai in my grandparent’s house… It’s a two-party street.”
Esha alleged further that she was pressured by her father to delete her viral posts about these incidents. She also recounted an unsettling experience in New Jersey when Rupali allegedly slept in the bed shared by Esha’s parents. “It was Rupali who told my father to give my mother the divorce papers,” she said, countering her father’s recent social media statement denying Rupali’s involvement.
Ashwin K Verma addressed these allegations on X, noting, “I do have two daughters from previous relationships… Divorce is a difficult experience that can greatly affect and harm the children of that marriage. But marriages end for many reasons… My relationship with my second wife had multiple challenges that led to our separation… I only want the best for my children and my wife, and it saddens me to see anyone being pulled into cycles of negativity.”
