Will Ryan Reynolds Host the 2025 Oscars with Hugh Jackman? Deadpool Star Responds
There’s been a lot of buzz about Ryan Reynolds possibly reuniting with his Deadpool co-star Hugh Jackman to host the 2025 Oscars. Recently, Ryan addressed these rumors in an interview. Speaking on the Awards Circuit podcast, the 48-year-old actor denied being in talks for the hosting gig, despite speculation that he and Hugh were top choices.
“No, I don’t—historically speaking, that is a difficult job,” Ryan said. He acknowledged the challenges previous hosts have faced, noting that it’s a demanding role that many talented people have tried. “It’s a very hard job,” he added, while also admitting, “It would be a dream to do it one day. I’ll say that.”
Ryan explained he’s currently focused on writing a new movie for himself, Hugh, and director Shawn Levy, which will be outside the Marvel universe. The 97th Oscars will take place on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Earlier this year, it was reported that Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney both declined hosting the ceremony, and Deadline shared that other potential hosts, like Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Dwayne Johnson, were also considered. Hugh Jackman, who previously hosted the Oscars in 2009 and has emceed the Tony Awards four times, remains a popular choice.
Ryan also mentioned he wants to prioritize spending more time with his wife, Blake Lively, and their four children in the coming year, casting doubt on whether he would take on the Oscars hosting role even if offered.
