Venom: The Last Dance Review – Tom Hardy Film Pirouettes Unsteadily In A Messy Swan Song

Venom 3 Review: Venom: The Last Dance is the third instalment of the Venom series. The film hit the theatres on Friday (October 25). If you’re planning to watch it over the weekend, read our review first.

About Venom: The Last Dance

Venom The Last Dance Review: ‘Lethal Protectors’ Eddie Brock and symbiote Venom are back with a new adventure, but there’s no comeback in the end. The investigative journalist who carries the beast within him is on the run as the cops are hunting him after the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. That’s not all.

Venom: The Last Dance – Plot

Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) has to find a safe haven when the cops begin chasing him for the happenings of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. With Venom guiding and protecting him, he sets on a new adventure to New York to escape the law. While Eddie just believes there’s only one threat, the creator of the symbiotes, Knull, is chasing the codex. Hidden in the spine of the symbiote, if obtained, it could lead to the annihilation of humans and the alien.

On his journey to New York, Eddie meets Martin Moon (Rhys Ifans) and his family including his wife Nova Moon and children Leaf and Echo. The entire drama then unfolds at an alien research centre, Area 51.

Venom: The Last Dance Movie – What Works

Director Kelly Marcel stuffs Venom: The Last Dance with every element possible. There’s occasional humour, drama, emotions and a goodbye that also opens up multiple doors of possibilities. Do symbiotes even have an end? The screenplay is constantly busy with either a chase of the humans or symbiotes dancing their way to tackle the evil forces. The action sequences are smooth and fun. When Venom/Eddie dances with Mrs. Chen (Peggy Lu), it is entertaining.

Venom: The Last Dance Review – What Doesn’t Work

A strong villain leads to a great battle between the good and evil. Striving on this core, Venom: The Last Dance disappoints with a safe story. Despite being occasionally fun and engaging, the plot lacks a firm core. The antagonist is weak, leading it to become instantly predictable. Sequences of chase and montages of the past are added to fill up time. In the end, the film does get the fans emotional but the sentiment majorly leans towards saying, ‘Good riddance’. But, there’s more to the tale coming up in the future.

The focus shifts from Eddie and Venom to other symbiotes in the lab. Instead of cheesy humour, the jokes fall flat. Melancholy isn’t felt that deeply. The sentiment of loss goes for a toss due to the uneven storytelling.

Venom 3 Movie Review – Verdict

Venom has been loved as a franchise for its craziness. However, the swan song falls short of it despite having the perfect stage set. This last edition of the series is born with two left feet.
