‘Protection of roti, beti, and maati biggest issue in Jharkhand election’: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Wednesday that infiltration remains the central issue in the Jharkhand elections. Speaking at a rally in Sarath, Deoghar district, Modi expressed concerns over the decline of the tribal population in Santhal, urging Jharkhand residents to protect their tribal families. “Wherever I have traveled in Jharkhand, the biggest worry has been about infiltration… According to available data, the tribal population in Santhal has reduced to half. We must protect our tribal families and every Jharkhandi from this,” Modi said.
The prime minister’s remarks came as voting proceeded in 43 of the 81 constituencies for phase 1 of the Jharkhand assembly elections, which are being conducted in two phases on November 13 and 20. The vote count is set for November 23. During the rally, Modi alleged a “huge conspiracy” to alter Jharkhand’s identity, blaming the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress government for granting permanent residency to infiltrators in the state.
“Under JMM-Congress, every effort was made to make these infiltrators permanent residents in the state. These infiltrators have taken away your jobs and ‘roti.’ The JMM government acknowledged in court that infiltration exists in the state. Protecting ‘roti, beti, and maati’ (livelihood, daughters, and land) is the biggest issue in this election. I assure you that the BJP will protect them,” Modi asserted.
